About McPherson

“When it matters” has become the adopted slogan of one of the Midwest’s most progressive communities…McPherson, Kansas. McPherson (pronounced Mc-Furson) has certainly lived up to the reputation of its namesake, General James Birdseye McPherson, one of the most respected generals in the Union army. Consistently ranked among author Norman Crampton’s “100 Best Small Towns in America”, McPherson is proud of its heritage, its Old World traditions, its famous Midwest work ethic, and its high moral values.

Students from McPherson’s superb public and private school systems consistently rank much higher than both state and national academic ACT test averages. Two church affiliated 4-year colleges are located in McPherson. McPherson College is associated with the Church of the Brethren; and Central Christian College with the Free Methodist Church. Hutchinson Community College also has a center in McPherson.

You’ll find attractive residential areas with carefully groomed yards and tree-lined streets, evidence of the pride that exudes from McPherson’s citizenry. Twelve magnificently maintained public parks are scattered throughout the city. A Country Club, two public golf courses, a municipal water park, and a host of recreational and athletic sites provide activities for the young and those of “more mature” ages…residents and visitors alike.

Whether you’re looking for a nice place to visit, a place to call home, or perhaps a new industry or business location…remember "When it matters, McPherson."
