This diversity has helped McPherson and its surrounding area prosper in good times and shielded it during difficult times. While major manufacturers and industrial clusters exist, McPherson is not dependent on any single segment of industry to protect its economy. Naturally, with the BPU’s low electric rates many of our manufacturers are high intensity electricity users. A cluster of plastics extrusion and injection molding plants prosper here, as well as do their support industries. No fewer than seventeen of McPherson’s companies either manufacture or support the plastics industry. Yet, three of the four largest industrial employers are not involved in plastics.
